India has pledged to evacuate its nationals and people of Sri Lanka stranded in Iran amid ongoing battle with Israel. The Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude for India’s help, highlighting their robust partnership. The Indian Embassy can even facilitate the evacuation of Nepalese residents upon request. Less than 100 Sri Lankans are at the moment in Iran.

“Sri Lanka extends its sincere gratitude to the Government of India for the timely assistance to evacuate Sri Lankan nationals from Iran alongside Indian citizens,” Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka posted on X on Saturday.
Earlier, the Indian mission in Iran had stated that it will assist in evacuating nationals of Nepal and Sri Lanka following requests from their respective governments.
“On request of the Governments of Nepal and Sri Lanka, the Indian Embassy’s evacuation efforts in Iran can even cowl Citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka,” the Indian Embassy stated.
The Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry suggested its residents in Iran to contact the Indian Embassy in Tehran in the event that they want to depart the nation.
“The authorities of Sri Lanka has made preparations with the federal government of India to help Sri Lankans who want to depart Iran by accommodating them within the flights,” the ministry stated in an official launch.
According to the Foreign Ministry, there are lower than 100 Sri Lankan nationals in Iran, whereas some 20,000 are employed in Israel.
