J&Okay Govt begins technique of taking on 215 faculties linked to banned Jamaat-e-Islami

Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday (August 23, 2025) started the method of taking on the administration of 215 faculties affiliated with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), officers mentioned.

On Saturday (August 23) morning, groups from the district administration and police visited these faculties throughout the valley and took over their administration, the officers mentioned.

They mentioned principals of the respective nearest increased secondary faculties additionally accompanied the Administration groups to take over the administration of those faculties.

The course of follows after the School Education Department on Friday (August 22) ordered the takeover of the colleges affiliated with JeI and its Falah-e-Aam Trust.

“The Managing Committee of the 215 schools shall be taken over by the District Magistrate/ Deputy Commissioner concerned who shall propose a fresh Managing Committee in due course for the concerned schools after getting these duly verified,” the order mentioned.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs, on February 28, 2019, and once more on February 27, 2024, declared the Jel as an illegal affiliation beneath the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

“The Intelligence Agencies have identified a number of schools which were found to be directly or indirectly affiliated with proscribed organisation Jamat-e-Islami (Jel)/Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT),” the order mentioned.

It mentioned the validity of the managing committees of those faculties has expired, and likewise these panels have been “reported adversely” by the intelligence companies.

The order mentioned the choice to take over the managing committees of such faculties has been taken with a view to safeguard the educational way forward for the scholars enrolled in these faculties.

The involved District Magistrate/ Deputy Commissioner shall take applicable steps in session and in coordination with the School Education Department to make sure that the educational profession of the scholars enrolled in these faculties will not be affected in any method, it added.
