Karnataka High Court directs transport unions to place their strike name on maintain for a day

The High Court of Karnataka on Monday (August 4, 2025) directed the State public transport unions to placed on maintain their strike name for a day to allow the courtroom know the result of the continuing assembly of the representatives of the union and the Chief Minister.

A division bench comprising Justice Ok.S. Madagal and Justice M.G.S. Kamal handed the order on a PIL petitions filed by J. Sunil and others, who’re all relying on the general public transport for his or her on a regular basis journey. 

However, the Bench requested the petitioner’s advocate about who will deal with the pursuits of drivers and conductors of the general public transport companies when there was no wage revision for them since a number of years. 

The Bench was knowledgeable by the advocates for the State authorities and the KSRTC {that a} joint motion committee (JAC) of the unions have given a name for strike when the strategy of conciliation has already been underway concerning the dispute as per the legislation.

The JAC, which represents workers of all 4 State-run transport companies, has demanded a wage hike efficient from January 1, 2024, and the settlement of pending arrears for 38 months from January 1, 2020, to February 28, 2023. It has additionally insisted that the revised pay be relevant for 4 years, as much as December 31, 2027.
