Moitra questions detention of 9 W.B. migrant labourers in Chhattisgarh

The current detention of migrant labourers from West Bengal’s Nadia district by Chhattisgarh police in Kondagaon district of Bastar area has precipitated a furore with Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra calling it “State-sponsored terrorism and kidnapping by the Chhattisgarh authorities, police.”

Countering these claims, the police mentioned that the 9 males had been detained on July 12 beneath preventive provisions as a result of they had been staying within the district for a chronic interval with out offering their paperwork that the legislation mandates, and had been let off on Monday (July 14, 2025).

On a video that she posted on X, Ms. Moitra mentioned that Chhattisgarh Police had detained the 9 males, all residents of her constituency (Krishnanagar, West Bengal), regardless of them having gone with a labour contractor with full documentation and verification, and neither their households nor the Government of West Bengal had been knowledgeable. 

She additional added that even after they had been launched in response to the police, there was no cell phone contact with them. The Hindu independently dialled two of the detained males Manirul Islam Mondal and Sayan S.Ok. on late Monday night however their telephones had been discovered switched off. Claiming that the Kondagaon Superintendent of Police (SP) informed her that he didn’t need the employees there, the Trinamool MP requested why Indian residents who had been doing authorized work wanted to go away the State? 

On these allegations, Kondagaon SP Akshay Kumar informed The Hindu that the employees had been residing in Kondagaon for the previous three months however had not knowledgeable the native police station regardless of repeated bulletins by the native police. “Day earlier than yesterday, we discovered them throughout patrolling. When we requested for his or her names and IDs they didn’t produce and began misbehaving with us.
