Alifa Ahmed, the TMC candidate, gained the bye-election by 50,049 votes. While Ahmed obtained 102,759 votes, Ashish Ghosh, the BJP-candidate, obtained 52,710 votes.
The by-election was necessitated after the loss of life of former TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed in February this 12 months. Nasiruddin Ahmed was the daddy of Alifa Ahmed. The TMC has been profitable the seat since 2011.
