Illicit affair; woman murdered and buried in farm

The SIPCOT Police have arrested a builder and his wife in connection with the murder of a woman and burying her body as the victim allegedly had an illicit affair with the builder.

Police said K. Brinda Devi, 32, of Sankaraperi Housing Board Colony here, whose husband Krishnakumar is working abroad, went out of her house in the early hours of Tuesday and did not return home.

Based on the complaint from Chelladurai, father of Brinda Devi, the SIPCOT Police registered a case and collected CCTV footages from the cameras fitted near the house of the missing woman.

As one of the CCTV footages showed that Brinda Devi was entering the house of building contractor Marimuthu, 38, in the same area, police picked-up the builder and his wife Saravana Priya, 34, for interrogation. The police, during the grilling of the couple, found that Brinda Devi had an extra-marital affair with Marimuthu and hence had gone to meet him in the early hours of Tuesday.

When Saravana Priya found her husband with Brinda Devi in her house, a heated argument and scuffle broke-out between the women. As Marimuthu tried to pacify them, Saravana Priya forcibly pushed her husband into a room and locked it from outside. She also allegedly attacked Brinda Devi and smothered her with a pillow and she breathed her last.

As Saravana Priya told Marimuthu about it, they stuffed the body in a gunny bag and took it to a farm on Tuesday afternoon with the help of Marimuthu’s relative Karthik. They buried the body in a farm at Ceylon Colony near Ottapidaaram.

The police have arrested Marimuthu and Saravana Priya and taken steps to exhume the body in the presence of Tahsildar of Ottapidaaram on Thursday (May 14).

Hunt is on to nab Karthik also.
