Meghalaya initiates land acquisition course of for 23,000 cr. Shillong-Silchar high-speed hall

The #Meghalaya authorities has initiated the land acquisition course of for the development of the ₹22,864-crore high-speed hall from #Umiam Lake close to #Shillong to #Silchar in decrease #Assam, officers stated on Tuesday (August 5, 2025).

The proposed greenfield four-lane freeway, which is able to move via the #Ri-Bhoi district, can be constructed by the #National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), they stated.

In a notification, Ri-Bhoi’s Deputy Commissioner, Abhilash #Baranwal, appealed to villagers to not undertake any new building or improvement exercise inside the designated space of the proposed hall with out prior permission from his workplace.

“It is hereby clearly stated that any unauthorised structures, whether temporary or permanent, erected within the proposed alignment after the issuance of this notice will not be considered eligible for any compensation at the time of land acquisition or project implementation,” it stated.

17 villages recognized

Seventeen villages have been recognized for land acquisition. Among them are Pyllun, Umeit, Umroi Labansaro, Nongrah, Nonglakhia, Wahmyntait, and Lumsohphoh, officers stated.

The 166.80-km hall will start at Mawlyngkhung close to #Shillong and finish at Panchgram close to #Silchar. While 144.80 km of the route is in #Meghalaya, 22 km is in #Assam, they stated.

The mission is aimed toward boosting connectivity and financial improvement within the area.
