One of the major civic problems plaguing the constituency is the draining of sewage of Sattur town and neighbouring rural areas into Vaippar river.

For years, Sattur Assembly constituency has been notorious for illegal fireworks units. Mostly, these units function in houses and also in sheds in both Sattur and Vembakottai unions.

After gaining work experience in fireworks units, workers set up their own units with an eye on bigger profits.
