Yogish Acharya, 54, a resident of Kote village in Udupi’s Kaup Taluk, was produced before the Special KCOCA Court in Mysuru. The Principal District and Sessions Judge remanded him to judicial custody, the police said. The police stated that the co-accused, Kali Yogish, has been at large and was believed to be abroad.
In December 2022, the Kaup Police booked ‘Kali’ Yogish, Yogish Acharya, and their associates for allegedly assaulting a man named Chandrashekar over a land dispute. Subsequently, in March 2023, the group was booked over the murder of Sharath Shetty, who was reportedly killed for supporting Chandrashekar.
On October 20, 2025, the Kaup police registered a third case against ‘Kali’ Yogish and his aides over an alleged threat to Chandrashekar. The accused reportedly threatened the latter against testifying in the two previous cases and pressured him to settle an agreed-upon amount with Acharya.
